Welcome

Welcome to Desert Wind!
Desert Wind Belly Dance has been operating in Lethbridge for 9 years. We are a fusion troupe, which means we incorporate other styles of dance in to our choreographies and classes.  As the "fun" troupe in Lethbridge (yes, we are so-called), we are most interested in spreading the joy of dance to women of all ages, shapes and sizes in classes, and spreading that same joy (along with fiery energy and craziness) to audiences of all ages. "Spreading the Joy" is our motto, our slogan, our definition; we are so fortunate to be asked to share our wily passions with our community.

Cynthia

Cynthia has been dancing with the DWBD since the beginning, when Chelsie first started teaching classes over 7 years ago. That day changed her life. Cynthia wanted to learn everything about this art form. She loves tradtional Egyptian Style  Bellydance and also practices Raqs al Saïf or sword dancing and raks al Shamadan or balancing a candlelabra on her head. She loves the theatrics of belly dance and who could resist the gorgeous costumes!

A Few of our Favorite Things...

And so it begins.  Its a new year at Desert Wind, and we are heavily into choreographing our new spring/summer show.  Curious about what to expect?  Think Carnavale: an interactive, outrageous, flamboyant set with flavors of samba, tribal, cabaret and classic Egyptian belly dance.

What do we LOVE right now?  I can only speak for myself, and I am loving a new app called 8tracks.  That thing takes me on musical adventures, inspriring me to do everything from rock the kitchen dance floor to painting women who are part tree stump...Ahem.  These, my friends, are a few of our favorite things.

Chelsie  : Ted talks. Www.ted.com, Walk in closets, Kettle bell swings (makes a nice posterior), Silver things from furniture to earrings, My friend Jenn.  Kimber: Playing in the dirt, sweating in the sun, laughing LOUDLY, coolers of Korona, red wine and pottery, trips with girlfriends, bargain racks and thrift stores, snap kicks and pushups. Jennie  A good book with lots of smut, great music to dance around my kitchen to, baking bread, soaking up the sun, golfing, chocolate and popcorn.  Jenni  dancing, digging in the dirt professionaly:), DOGS!, baking, archaeology, good music, ballet and pointe, drinks and good friends. Jo-LynnTerry's Chocolate Oranges, 70% off sales with an additional 30% off (shouldn't that be free then?), goodbye kisses from baby, hello kisses from baby, vacations with TV series marathons, "squishey" drinks. Nicole Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, apparently those are Julie Andrews' favorite things... that #(@*$ stole my ideas so I'll think of some different ones.  CBC radio, cats with puffy tails, and new plastic doll smell. And cheese! Yes, I too indulge in the delicious dairy delicacy! Often there are more than 3 types in my fridge! Right now I have four! I also love this Fender-pro amp system! I think we should get one for troupe! The sound is phenomenal, and it packs up into one easy to carry system! Danielle Wait...me too :)Wine, great glasses, awesome boots and shoes - well any shoes :).
